How to properly store and care for your flashlight

So lagerst und pflegst du deine Taschenlampe richtig

A flashlight does not require much maintenance. However, you can extend its lifespan with a few simple habits.

1. Store the battery correctly

If you do not use your flashlight for an extended period, you should not store the battery completely empty.

For long-term storage, a suitable state of charge according to the manufacturer's specifications is recommended.

2. Keep the threads clean

Many flashlights have important contact surfaces on the threads.

Dirt or deposits can impair the electrical connection.

A clean, dry cloth can already help here.

3. Do not underestimate water

Even if a flashlight is water-resistant, this does not mean that it should remain underwater for an unlimited amount of time.

After contact with water, the lamp should be cleaned and completely dried, as far as provided by the manufacturer.

4. Keep the lens clean

Fingerprints, dust, and dirt on the lens can impair the light output.

A soft microfiber cloth is well suited for cleaning.

5. Avoid extreme temperatures

Intense heat and extreme cold can strain the battery and electronics.

If possible, you should store your flashlight at normal temperatures.

6. Check regularly

If the flashlight has not been used for a long time, a quick functional test is worthwhile.

Battery charged? Light working? Housing undamaged?

This way, you will know immediately in case of emergency that your lamp is ready for use.

LUXPEAK Tip – The 50–80% rule

If you do not use your flashlight for a long time, you should avoid storing the battery permanently at 0% or 100% as much as possible. For many lithium-ion batteries, a state of charge of about 50–80% is sensible for storage.

Even more important: Store the lamp in a cool, dry place and check the state of charge regularly. This way, you reduce the strain on the battery, can slow down its aging, and ensure that your flashlight is ready for use at the crucial moment.
